Learning to Blow Glass
“I’ve been an artist for the past 33 years. In my most recent works I’ve been using a unique paint-crackling technique I spent years developing to create rich textures and unusual colors. My abstract pieces blend the look of aged oil paintings with a vibrant metallic glow. Because art is in the eye of the beholder, every viewer discovers their own hidden images within the canvas."
"Hi there, I'm Debbie Westman, I have always loved making things, my Mom likes to say that I was born with crayons. Back in the 1990’s I sculpted ceramic masks and then moved onto sculpt Day Dreamer Dolls as "Debbie Ward" which I sold in my then home Santa Barbara, CA for about 25 years.
I was featured in the Santa Barbara News Press and sold at the YES Store and along the board walk on Sundays. Then I opened Moonshine Bay, my little artists co-op and clothing store on the Mesa.
After many years I moved to my home town of Sun Valley, Idaho where I met my Husband Mark, who swept me away traveling for many years. Now we recently bought a home that happens to have an artists studio. Here is wear my painting career has begun, I have always wanted to paint but I'm messy, finally I have a place to play and get paint everywhere including all over myself.
Recently I had to run my dog to the vet and he took one look at me and said "you must be a painter" I excitedly asked how he knew, wondering if I had some kind of a glow, he said" well, you have a smudge of blue paint across your forehead and paint splattered feet!" so much for a glow.
I hope you enjoy the paintings as much as I do painting them.
thank you, Deb
